Too Soon for a Bold Alabama Football Prediction? Maybe Not.
It might seem a bit premature to make bold predictions just four practices into Fall Camp, but why not? A couple of weeks ago, I pegged Alabama Football for six “lock” wins this regular season. Now, I’m bumping that number up to seven.
Originally, my list of locks included Florida State, ULM, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, Eastern Illinois, and Tennessee. I’m now adding Auburn to that list. Among Auburn fans, confidence in the Tigers has eroded to the point where Hugh Freeze is teetering on losing the fanbase entirely. While Auburn will be improved, I’m setting their over/under at 2.5 losses within the first month of the season.
Freeze tried to shift expectations early on, framing bowl eligibility as the goal. Recently, he’s sounded more optimistic, saying, “We’re expectant of being a really good football team that competes in every game and has a chance to win every game.” But skepticism remains. As Fly War Eagle noted, Auburn’s odds in their Week 1 matchup against Baylor have slid, sparking doubts that Freeze will even finish the season as head coach. DJ Durkin is already mentioned as a potential interim replacement. Add to that a tumultuous offseason — from Freeze’s viral golf obsession to the Malcolm Simmons domestic violence charges — and the cracks are widening.
Jordan-Hare Stadium has earned its nickname, “Voodoo Land,” but this November, it won’t be enough to lift a demoralized Auburn squad. Alabama is poised to make it six straight Iron Bowl wins.
10 (or More) Alabama Regular Season Wins
In addition to the seven locks, I’m now projecting Alabama to win at least 10 regular-season games. Is that bold? Sure. Is it crazy? Not at all. Derek Peterson of Saturday Down South echoed this sentiment in early July, calling Alabama one of his “best bets to crack 10 wins.” He also pointed out that 10-win teams are, historically, great teams. If Peterson and I are right, 2025 will mark Alabama’s 17th season with 10 or more wins since 2008. The Tide’s current streak of 16 consecutive 10-win seasons under Nick Saban is an NCAA record.
Matt Melton of Roll Tide Wire is even more bullish, predicting 11 regular-season victories for the Crimson Tide. Detractors tend to focus their doubts on Ty Simpson, labeling his potential as “iffy.” I’m betting Simpson will transition from unproven to solid faster than expected. He may not need to be a star immediately for Alabama to reach double-digit wins — steady play at quarterback, combined with elite talent elsewhere, will be enough.
