Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers aren’t backing off any recruiting battles — no matter how late they join the race or where a prospect is currently committed. LSU has been aggressive, persistent, and successful, reeling in more than half a dozen top-tier recruits since the beginning of July.
Now, they’re eyeing another elite prospect at tight end — a position they’ve prioritized — despite entering the mix only after his recent decommitment from Texas A&M. And once again, LSU appears poised to come out on top, as the Tigers continue stacking recruiting wins with the season fast approaching.
George Lamons Trending Toward LSU and Another Contender
George Lamons, a towering 6’4”, 215-pound tight end from the class of 2027, has emerged as one of the hottest names on the board. More than just size, Lamons plays like a jumbo wide receiver, showing off exceptional ball skills, smooth route-running, and surprising long speed. He dominated his sophomore season, posting over 1,300 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns while routinely overpowering defenders.
Originally committed to Texas A&M in April, Lamons reopened his recruitment in late July — and the scramble began. Several national powerhouses jumped in, but LSU has quickly positioned itself as the frontrunner, battling closely with one other top program for the coveted pass-catcher.

Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Penn State, and several other top programs are all in pursuit of George Lamons — but according to multiple sources, no one has been more relentless than LSU. The Tigers have reportedly been in contact with Lamons daily, making him a clear priority. Georgia Tech remains a strong contender, consistently staying in touch, but LSU appears to be in pole position.
What’s giving LSU the edge? It starts with opportunity, a proven track record, and a strategic recruiting push that includes key campus visits.
LSU’s tight end pipeline speaks for itself. Mason Taylor just heard his name called in the second round of the NFL Draft this spring, and freshman standout Trey’Dez Green is already turning heads with his early impact. For Lamons — a 6’4″, 215-pound athletic mismatch with elite upside — the path to becoming the next star in that lineage is crystal clear.
He’ll get a closer look at that future soon. Lamons is scheduled to attend LSU games in back-to-back weeks this fall — first for their marquee matchup against Clemson, and again the following weekend for the Tigers’ home opener in Baton Rouge.
