LSU quarterback Garret Nussmeier is not dealing with a season-ending injury, despite online rumors.
In fact, LSU coach Brian Kelly clarified to reporters that Nussmeier has patellar tendonitis — not a torn ACL — and joked that “we have not amputated his leg.” The condition, rated just 1.5 out of 10 in severity, stems from his 2023 Osgood-Schlatter surgery. Kelly said Nussmeier was throwing today and is expected to return to practice tomorrow.
Kelly described the issue as a manageable, chronic condition with no lasting effects. He said it’s simply patellar tendonitis, similar to recovering from a bad ankle, and is treated daily. Nussmeier practiced today and is expected to do so again tomorrow. Kelly explained that the quarterback likely aggravated the pre-existing condition by planting his foot awkwardly.
