Recruiting for Virginia Tech’s Class of 2026 has been an uphill battle for head coach Brent Pry. Entering Friday, the Hokies had secured just 10 commitments, often coming up short against in-state rival Virginia and national powerhouses from other conferences.
One of the cycle’s most sought-after prospects still on the board was Andrew Rogers of Greensboro, North Carolina. The highly touted edge rusher, who held nearly two dozen scholarship offers, had kept his finalists under wraps. On Friday, however, Rogers announced his decision—and it was a major victory for Pry and Virginia Tech.

Rogers, rated a four-star by 247Sports, has drawn significant attention throughout the recruiting process. Midlands Region Analyst Gabe Brooks of 247Sports highlighted his upside, projecting him as a Power Five-caliber defender with room to grow physically and technically.
Rogers chose the Hokies over a host of big-name programs, including Tennessee, Florida State, and Michigan State. His production last fall was eye-catching: 76 tackles, 34 tackles for loss, 23 sacks, and three forced fumbles.
Brooks described him as a “tall, long edge rusher with a frame that should continue to add mass. Flashes encouraging pursuit ability and closing speed. Shows some bend and dip ability relative to size. Can improve pad level consistency and hand violence.”
Ranked as the No. 44 edge defender in the 2026 class and the No. 22 prospect in North Carolina, Rogers becomes Virginia Tech’s third defensive line commit of the cycle. He joins Kamden Gillespie of Mooresville, N.C., and Virginia Beach native Kamren Johnson.
