Georgia Bulldogs’ Historic Rivals Start 2025 with Impressive Wins
Georgia’s two longtime rivals, Georgia Tech and Auburn, began their 2025 seasons on the road in challenging environments. Georgia Tech traveled to Boulder to face Colorado, while Auburn headed to Waco for a Friday night clash with Baylor.
Though neither game was flawless, both teams managed significant victories to kick off the season.
Georgia Tech Overcomes Early Turnovers
Starting a game with three turnovers in its first three possessions usually spells disaster—but Georgia Tech defied the odds, rallying to a one-touchdown win in Boulder.
Quarterback Haynes King led the charge with a career-best performance, rushing for 156 yards and three touchdowns. Colorado struggled to move the ball consistently, and despite the Yellow Jackets’ early mistakes, the Buffaloes couldn’t capitalize enough to secure a win.
Auburn Revives Its Offense
After a disappointing 2024 season, Auburn found new life on offense thanks to Oklahoma transfer quarterback Jackson Arnold. Much like King, Arnold made the difference with his legs, rushing for over 130 yards and two touchdowns—marking the first time a Tiger quarterback has done so since Nick Marshall.
Auburn’s offense also stayed clean with zero turnovers and converted two of three red zone opportunities. The Tigers looked like a transformed team from last year, establishing themselves as one to watch in 2025.
Should Georgia Be Concerned?
While Georgia fans need not panic, these performances highlight that both Auburn and Georgia Tech could pose real challenges to the Bulldogs’ championship aspirations. Each team features highly mobile, talented quarterbacks capable of testing Georgia’s defense.
It’s still early, and one week doesn’t define a season, but Auburn and Georgia Tech are already showing improvement over their 2024 form. Their upcoming matchups against Georgia could be more competitive than many expect.
