Kansas football is rolling after back-to-back dominant wins. The Jayhawks opened the season with a 31–7 Week Zero victory over Mountain West foe Fresno State, then followed it up with a commanding 46–7 win against FCS opponent Wagner. Lance Leipold’s squad now turns its focus to a marquee matchup with Missouri just days away.
One of the storylines from Friday’s win over Wagner, however, was the absence of linebacker Bangally Kamara. After an impressive debut against Fresno State, Kamara was not in uniform against Wagner. Leipold later explained the reason:
“Bangally suffered a non-contact injury in Thursday’s practice, and his status will be unknown for a while.”
Ahead of his latest media availability today, reporters also noticed some notable omissions on Kansas’ updated Week Two depth chart.
The first update Leipold provided was on punter Finn Lappin, who sat out against Wagner.
“Finn was just held, he had a tweak of something…he was limited today, so we’ll see where that goes for the week,” Leipold said.
Attention then turned to linebacker Bangally Kamara and offensive lineman Jack Tanner.
“[Kamara] did not practice today. That’s my update, okay,” Leipold remarked. “Jack Tanner did not practice today as well, so they’re not on the depth chart, so you can probably figure where that’s trending for both.”
Tanner, a Tulsa transfer, appeared in nine games as a freshman before joining Kansas in December. He arrived rated as a .8600 three-star transfer by 247Sports.
The Jayhawks could feel the loss of either player against Missouri—especially Kamara, the highest-rated transfer Kansas secured out of the portal.
Kansas and Missouri are set to renew their rivalry this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT, the first meeting between the programs since 2011.
