Not long ago, head coach Dabo Swinney had the Clemson Tigers looking like college football’s next great dynasty. The Tigers dismantled Ohio State in the College Football Playoff and even toppled Alabama in the national championship.
But those glory days feel distant now. Clemson has stumbled out of the gate this season, starting 1-2 with losses to LSU and Georgia Tech. The downturn has left fans frustrated and calling for Swinney’s job.
Swinney, however, isn’t shying away from the noise. He’s made it clear that if Clemson leadership wants to move on, he’ll walk—though not away from football.
“If Clemson is tired of winning, they can send me on my way,” Swinney said. “But I’m gonna go somewhere else and coach. I ain’t going to the beach.”
Fans had plenty to say about Swinney’s bold comments.
“We all know, Dabo. Nobody loves to talk about the past more than you—and you do it every single time someone criticizes you,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
Another added, “At some point, Clemson is either going to get tired of only winning 10 games and the ACC, or they’re going to want to raise their standards. One or the other.”
A third fan put it bluntly: “In other words, Clemson is stuck with Dabo. He won championships there, so he’s gonna keep doing things his way for the next 10 years—and there’s nothing Clemson fans can do about it.”
Whether the Tigers actually decide to move on from Swinney remains to be seen.
