Week 16 Injury Report: Cowboys star questionable with illness

The Dallas Cowboys return home for a Sunday Night Football matchup against the red-hot Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

After delivering their best defensive performance of the season against the Panthers last week, the Cowboys will need all their strength against Baker Mayfield’s high-powered offense. With the playoffs no longer a realistic goal, the Cowboys are looking to play spoiler for the rest of the season, starting with the Bucs. To pull off the upset, they’ll rely on their depth to get the job done.

Injury Report:

Questionable:

  • G T.J. Bass (Thigh)
  • LB Eric Kendricks (NIR-Personal/Shoulder)
  • CB Jourdan Lewis (Elbow)
  • DE Micah Parsons (Illness)

The most surprising development is Micah Parsons appearing on the injury report on Friday due to illness. However, those close to the team expect him to play, as the defense will need him against Mayfield and wide receiver Mike Evans. Both Eric Kendricks and Nick Vigil are also listed as questionable. While Vigil and Johnson provide depth, Kendricks is crucial for the defense, especially after DeMarvion Overshown’s knee injury.

Out:

  • WR Jalen Brooks (Knee)
  • CB Trevon Diggs (Knee)

Jalen Brooks’ status remains unclear, but Trevon Diggs is out for the season. Diggs will undergo bone tissue transplant surgery on his knee to repair damage and promote healing. This injury is the same knee that kept him out of most of the 2023 season after a torn ACL. The Cowboys will miss Diggs against Evans, leaving DaRon Bland and others to cover a player who just posted 159 yards and two touchdowns against one of the NFL’s best defenses.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

Questionable:

  • S Mike Edwards (Hamstring)

The Buccaneers have one questionable player, but overall, they are in good shape for the game. Notably, their key players like Mike Evans, Baker Mayfield, and Bucky Irving are not listed on the injury report.

Doubtful:

  • LB KJ Britt (Ankle)
  • TE Cade Otton (Knee)

Out:

  • WR Kameron Johnson (Ankle)
  • S Antoine Winfield (Knee)

The Cowboys catch a break with Cade Otton, who is listed as doubtful due to a knee injury and missed practice all week. He’s expected to be a game-time decision but is trending toward not playing. KJ Britt is also doubtful but practiced slightly this week, though it wasn’t enough to earn a questionable designation.

Despite these absences, the Bucs are healthy at key positions. The Cowboys, meanwhile, will have to contend with a sick Micah Parsons, the absence of Trevon Diggs, and a roster with several backups as they try to shake up the NFC playoff race.
