PROVO, Utah — A BYU football player has earned Academic All-American honors for the first time since 2010.
BYU starting safety Tanner Wall was recognized as a First Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators.

Wall is the first BYU athlete to earn Academic All-American honors since running back Bryan Kariya in 2010.
The selections for the first and second teams are determined by achievements both on the field and in the classroom. Wall played in all 13 games at safety for a BYU football defense that ranked as the best defense in the Big 12.
A previous walk-on wide receiver, Wall transitioned to defense in 2023 and has excelled at safety. Wall recorded three interceptions last season and was a co-leader in picks for BYU’s defense.
Wall recorded a personal best of 53 tackles and one pass deflection, in addition to his three interceptions.
Wall is studying finance at BYU.
Outside of football, Tanner Wall studies finance at BYU and holds a cumulative GPA of 3.89.
Wall is the 17th football player from BYU to receive First Team Academic All-America honors.
The native of Arlington, Virginia will be among the leading players coming back to BYU’s defense in 2025.
Wall becomes part of a skilled Academic All-American squad featuring Heisman Trophy recipient Travis Hunter.
