The Texas Longhorns are actively engaged in developing their 2026 recruiting class and might have an advantage for one of the nation’s premier edge rusher talents.
On3 Sports’ Steve Wiltfong officially forecasted that Texas would secure Temple, TX, defensive end Jamarion Carlton on Monday. The four-star recruit participated in UT’s junior day events in Austin on Saturday and is considered a Top 10 national prospect for his position by On3, 247 Sports, and Rivals, respectively.
Carlton has been receiving numerous offers from a list of elite programs nationwide, and it’s clear why. At 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 240 pounds, the Central Texas talent has the size, reach, and athletic ability to be a game-changing pass rusher for many programs nationwide. During his junior year at Temple High School this past season, he recorded 34 solo tackles, 13 quarterback hurries, 11 tackles for loss, and five sacks.
“Seems to be one of the high-upside front-line defenders in the 2026 TXHSFB class,” stated 247 Sports analyst Gabe Brooks. “Shows unexpected, rapid strength for his age and physique, and will likely continue to grow larger and more powerful from this point.”
Texas formally extended an offer to Carlton during their Elite Camp last June and has been focused on securing his commitment ever since. Later that month, he paid an unofficial visit to the 40 Acres, and as previously noted, he participated in junior day this past weekend. Nonetheless, the Longhorns face tough competition as rivals Texas A&M and Baylor are also keenly targeting the local talent.
UT has secured two commitments for its 2026 recruiting class with four-star QB Dia Bell from Fort Lauderdale, FL, and three-star wide receiver Chris Stewart from Pearland, TX. A possible commitment from Carlton could initiate progress as the Horns aim to build on their 2025 class, which is expected to end up ranked first in the country.
