Ex-Boise State wide receiver Cam Camper experienced a shift in perspective.
Following his declaration for the NFL Draft last weekend, Camper has now entered the transfer portal, as reported by On3’s Pete Nakos. Camper will opt out of the draft and participate in one last season of college football.
Camper was Boise State’s top receiver in the 2024 season, making 58 catches for 903 yards and four touchdowns, earning all-Mountain West honorable mention. The 6-foot-3, 197-pound receiver recorded three receptions for 66 yards during Boise State’s defeat against Penn State in the College Football Playoff Fiesta Bowl.
Boise State concluded the season with a 12-2 record and secured its second consecutive Mountain West championship.
Camper, a fifth-year senior in 2024, is utilizing an NCAA waiver that provides extra eligibility to past junior college athletes. He spent two seasons at Trinity Valley Community College before moving to Indiana and later Boise State.
Camper played as the Z receiver in Boise State’s run-dominant offense that highlighted Heisman Trophy runner-up running back Ashton Jeanty. Jeanty, who accumulated 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns during his junior year, announced his declaration for the NFL Draft in early January.
The Broncos additionally lost their starting X receiver, Prince Strachan, to the transfer portal. Strachan, currently at USC, recorded 25 receptions for 304 yards and one touchdown last season.
Boise State is reintroducing slot receiver Latrell Caples (38 receptions, 473 yards, five touchdowns), tight end Matt Lauter (47 receptions, 619 yards, seven touchdowns), fourth receiver Austin Bolt (16 receptions, 196 yards, four touchdowns), highly-regarded recruit Chris Marshall, among others.
A Lancaster High School alumnus from the Dallas–Fort Worth area, Camper participated in two seasons of junior college football and two seasons at Indiana before moving to Boise. During his two seasons with Indiana, Camper recorded 63 receptions for 881 yards and three TDs.
