When a powerhouse like Alabama shows early interest in a player, leading to a commitment after their freshman year, it’s usually a good sign that the player is truly special.
That’s exactly the case with 4-star Class of 2027 prospect Jabarrius Garror, a standout from Vigor High School (AL). Garror committed to the Crimson Tide last summer, well before the real recruiting battles had even started. While he hasn’t wavered in that pledge, other programs have been trying to change his mind — and West Virginia, led by Rich Rodriguez and his staff, is now making a strong push to bring him to Morgantown.
This week, Garror picked up an offer from West Virginia, his 23rd offer from a Power 4 program. The Mountaineers are going up against some of the nation’s elite — including Auburn, Ohio State, Florida State, Texas, and LSU — in hopes of flipping this highly coveted Alabama commit.
Garror, a standout EDGE rusher, currently sits at No. 41 in ESPN’s Junior 300 Class of 2027 recruiting rankings, making him the highest-rated player from Alabama in the class. The 247Sports Composite Rankings also list him as the state’s top prospect, the No. 6 EDGE nationally, and the 51st overall player in the country. His on-field production in 2024 speaks volumes: 104 tackles (56 for loss) and 21.5 sacks earned him the Alabama Sports Writers Association 5A Lineman of the Year honors and a spot on the MaxPreps Sophomore All-American team.
Rich Rodriguez, now at the helm at West Virginia, is no stranger to Garror’s talents. During his time coaching at Jacksonville State, Rodriguez became well acquainted with the in-state scene, and he’s hoping to leverage that knowledge — along with the Power Four resources and highly regarded defensive coordinator Zac Alley — to pry Garror away from Alabama’s grasp. If successful, flipping Garror would be a massive statement and an immediate boost to West Virginia’s Class of 2027.
