The Duncanville community is grieving the loss of a beloved former student-athlete. NBC 5 has confirmed the passing of Kierston Russell, the twin sister of University of Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell. The siblings had recently graduated from Duncanville High School, where they were both celebrated for their athletic achievements.
Authorities in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, stated that Russell’s death does not appear to involve foul play. To help ease public speculation and growing media interest, officials granted permission for her death to be confirmed publicly.
Although details surrounding the situation remain limited, news of her passing spread quickly. Former teammates, coaches, and teachers have expressed their sorrow and paid tribute to Russell, remembering her impact on and off the court.
Russell was a standout player for the Duncanville High School Pantherettes. The team announced her passing on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Kierston Russell had recently joined her twin brother, Keelon Russell, in Alabama, where he plays quarterback for the University of Alabama’s Crimson Tide. The siblings had just graduated from Duncanville High School and were preparing for the next chapter of their lives.
In the wake of her passing, Kierston’s mother, April Moore, shared a heartfelt message on social media, expressing her family’s deep sorrow and gratitude.
“We are absolutely overwhelmed with gratitude at the outpouring of thoughts, prayers, and messages we have received from family, friends, the University of Alabama, Duncanville High School, and people across the country,” Moore wrote.
She continued, “I know I will never be whole again. Kierston, you were a true angel from God, and the only thought that is providing me with any peace and strength in this moment is knowing that you are resting with Him now.”
Former teachers, classmates, and teammates also took to social media to share their grief and memories of Kierston Russell. One former teammate reflected on the overwhelming emotions she felt during practice, saying all she could think about was the joy and laughter they shared during their time together at Duncanville.
Another teammate posted a photo of the two sitting side by side on the basketball court, writing that Russell’s name and spirit would live on forever.
