Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb expressed general satisfaction with left tackle Kadyn Proctor’s performance in pass protection during the Crimson Tide’s 31-17 loss to Florida State.
“I thought (Proctor) had a pretty good day,” Grubb said. “There were a couple late pressures, but he was holding up for a long time.”
Grubb noted that more issues came from the interior line, which he said created challenges for the offense.
“Interior pressure’s always the hardest for the quarterback to deal with because it comes fast,” Grubb said. “They shored that up later in the fourth, and I think they did a good job against some of the twist games Florida State presented.”
Still, Grubb acknowledged that allowing three sacks was not up to standard.
“I thought it was OK,” he said. “There are certainly some ID things we can continue to improve.”
According to Pro Football Focus, Proctor allowed six pressures — one sack, two hits and three hurries — the most of any Alabama lineman. Right tackle Wilkin Formby surrendered four pressures, guard Kam Dewberry allowed two, while center Parker Brailsford and right guard Geno VanDeMark each gave up one.
When assessing the group as a whole, Grubb emphasized consistency.
“There were some good spurts in the first half, especially on the left side, where I thought they played really well,” Grubb said. “But sustaining drives later in the game slipped a little. The guys did step up in the third quarter and showed progress, though.”
Alabama returns to action Saturday against Louisiana Monroe at Bryant-Denny Stadium (6:45 p.m. CT, SEC Network).
