FAYETTEVILLE — Former Razorback Adou Thiero Inks $5.95M Deal with Los Angeles Lakers
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Former Arkansas men’s basketball standout Adou Thiero has officially signed a three-year, $5.95 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, USA Today reported Sunday. The agreement includes two guaranteed years, with a team option for the third season.
Thiero, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward, was selected by the Lakers with the 36th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft on June 26. The pick was acquired through a trade with the Brooklyn Nets.
Despite his promising rookie outlook, Thiero will not participate in the upcoming NBA Summer League as he continues to recover from a hyperextended left knee — an injury that sidelined him for eight of Arkansas’ final nine games last season. However, team officials expect him to be fully healthy in time for preseason training camp this fall.
Thiero emerged as a leader for the Razorbacks during his final collegiate season, leading the team in both scoring and rebounding with averages of 15.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Known for his versatility, athleticism, and defensive presence, Thiero quickly became a fan favorite in Fayetteville and drew attention from NBA scouts throughout the season.
His signing adds depth to a Lakers frontcourt that is looking to blend youth with experience under new head coach J.J. Redick.
What’s Next
With his recovery progressing, Thiero is expected to begin workouts with the Lakers’ training staff later this summer and will aim to make his NBA debut when the preseason begins in October.
