FAYETTEVILLE — Blowout scores on paper often hide mistakes, and Arkansas football’s 52-7 win over Alabama A&M on Saturday was no exception.
Unlike last year’s 70-0 season-opening shutout, a repeat never seemed likely with seventh-year quarterback Cornelious Brown IV leading the Bulldogs. Still, Alabama A&M striking quicker than Arkansas on its opening possession raised some eyebrows.
The Razorbacks won the toss, elected to receive, and marched 75 yards in 4 minutes and 51 seconds to score first. Alabama A&M responded in just 3:35, despite being backed up by two false start penalties. Brown, operating with poise, used play-action to connect with freshman wideout Jordan Chambers-Smith for 18 yards and tight end Travaunta Abner for 26 yards to sustain the drive.
Running back Maurice Edwards IV capped the series by lowering his shoulder into Arkansas linebacker Stephen Dix Jr. for the Bulldogs’ lone touchdown of the day.
From there, the Razorbacks settled in.
