Arkansas Razorbacks Banking on Veteran Leadership, Depth at Linebacker in 2025
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — As the Arkansas Razorbacks gear up for the 2025 football season, one position stands out as a clear strength on the defensive side of the ball: linebacker. Anchored by proven veterans and bolstered by promising newcomers, the group is poised to be a stabilizing force for defensive coordinator Travis Williams’ unit.
Leading the charge is senior Xavian Sorey Jr., who paced the Razorbacks last season with 99 tackles and tied for the team lead in tackles for loss. Fellow senior Stephen Dix Jr. brings additional experience and leadership, giving Arkansas a reliable veteran presence in the middle of the defense.
Behind them, the Razorbacks are grooming the next wave of playmakers. Sophomore Bradley Shaw, who appeared in all 12 games last season, showcased versatility as both a tackler and edge rusher. Freshman Tavion Wallace, a highly touted four-star recruit, is expected to contribute early on special teams while developing into a defensive weapon.
Depth won’t be an issue either. Andrew Harris Jr., a speedy transfer, and redshirt senior Trent Whalen, another experienced transfer, are expected to bolster the rotation and provide insurance against injuries.
Williams’ success in both recruiting and developing talent has allowed Arkansas to maintain a deep, versatile linebacker corps. The blend of seasoned leaders and high-upside youth gives the Razorbacks a group capable of both making plays and holding the defense together as they navigate the always-tough SEC schedule.
With questions lingering in other defensive areas, Arkansas’ linebackers could prove to be the backbone of the team’s 2025 campaign — and a decisive factor in their push to rise in the conference standings.
