Auburn Football Star Arrested During Traffic Stop, Faces Drug Trafficking Charges

Auburn Linebacker D’Angelo Barber Arrested on Felony Drug Charges

Auburn football redshirt freshman linebacker D’Angelo Barber was arrested Monday in Dadeville, Alabama, following a traffic stop that led to multiple felony drug charges. Barber, 19, was one of two individuals taken into custody on Highway 280, raising questions about his status with the football program.

According to police, Barber was driving a 2019 GMC Yukon XL when he was pulled over at 9 a.m. for a traffic violation. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle after finding probable cause and called in the Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force. The search reportedly turned up 2.5 pounds of marijuana, a Glock 19 pistol, THC vape cartridges, digital scales, marijuana packaging materials, and approximately $1,900 in cash, per On3 Sports.

Barber now faces several charges, including marijuana trafficking (a Class A felony in Alabama), unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Marcell Brewster, a passenger in the vehicle and Barber’s former Clay-Chalkville High School teammate, was also arrested and charged with second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

Both were booked into the Tallapoosa County Jail. Barber’s bond was set at $28,500. Authorities indicated the case remains under investigation and could be tied to a broader drug trafficking operation in the region.

Barber joined Auburn’s 2024 recruiting class as a three-star prospect, ranked No. 31 in Alabama and No. 50 among linebackers nationally by the On3 Industry Ranking. He redshirted in 2024 and appeared in one game without logging any statistics. He was expected to compete for more playing time in 2025.

Auburn officials have acknowledged the situation and are gathering more details. As of now, no disciplinary action has been announced, leaving Barber’s future with the team uncertain.
