Jon Scheyer Quickly Pointed Out a Minor Issue with Cooper Flagg

In his third year leading the Duke Blue Devils, Jon Scheyer guided the team to the 2025 Final Four, falling just two victories shy of a national title.

Heading into the 2025-26 season, Scheyer faces significant roster changes, notably the departure of All-American forward Cooper Flagg, who has entered the 2025 NBA Draft.

During his single season at Duke, Flagg posted averages of 19.2 points on 48.1% shooting, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists, earning him the National College Player of the Year award.

Flagg is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in June’s draft, potentially joining Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, and the Dallas Mavericks, who secured the top pick against 1.8% odds in the draft lottery.

Jon Scheyer has been a steadfast supporter of Cooper Flagg throughout his NBA Draft journey. On Wednesday’s episode of “The Brotherhood Podcast,” Flagg asked Scheyer how it felt to coach him.

“Cooper was incredible this year,” Scheyer said. “He showed up every day, was an outstanding teammate, brought great energy, and his performance on the court speaks for itself.”

As host Justin Robinson attempted to move to another question, Scheyer interjected with a lighthearted concern about Flagg.

“It’d be even better if he texted me back right away all the time since he’s so in tune,” Scheyer said. “He finds time to send questions to Duke MBB, so he should have time to text me back promptly. That’s one thing I’ll say.”

Flagg wasn’t the only Duke starter from the 2024-25 season to declare for the NBA Draft; all five starters, including potential lottery picks Khaman Maluach and Kon Knueppel, have also entered. Despite the departures, Scheyer bolstered the roster by securing the top-ranked recruiting class, according to 247 Sports.

The first round of the 2025 NBA Draft is set to begin on June 25 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
