Dave Doeren’s media availability yesterday offered a couple of small takeaways (Jonathan Paylor looks sharp!), but for the most part he stuck to his long-standing rule: say nothing of substance.
When asked about competition in camp, his answer was short and firm:
“I’m not gonna give you any intel. Obviously, it doesn’t help our team to help you with that information.”
From there, however, he veered into an unprompted philosophical monologue:
“I don’t really believe in positions anymore. Positions are too restrictive on our humanity. I don’t think battles are good. I spent a lot of time on this while fishing in the Himalayas last month. What use are battles? War is hell.
I’ve been thinking about the football itself. Why do we have it? At some point, focusing so much on one object becomes toxic. I might get rid of it. I don’t think the players need it. Honestly, I’ve always found footballs ugly—just stupid, bulbous nonsense—and I can’t ignore that anymore.
Think about the Vikings. What was their deal? They just lived. And that’s what matters.”
