The Denver Broncos have yet to sign Courtland Sutton to an extension—a questionable move with training camp fast approaching. As the team’s clear WR1, Sutton has expressed a desire to remain in Denver long-term. However, if a new deal isn’t reached, a trade could become a realistic option.
On paper, the Broncos have a strong roster with legitimate playoff — and even Super Bowl — aspirations if everything clicks. That makes the idea of parting ways with Sutton hard to justify. Still, allowing the 29-year-old to walk for nothing at the end of the season would be a costly mistake. If Denver wants to avoid that outcome, now’s the time to make a decision.
In an effort to find a workable contract extension for the Broncos and standout wide receiver Courtland Sutton—who racked up 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns last season—Bob Morris of YardBarker projected a potential deal worth around $98 million over four years.
“If we look at comparable players, a four-year, $98 million extension for Sutton makes sense, averaging $24.5 million annually,” Morris wrote. “The Broncos could include $52 million in full guarantees, which would exceed the amount Calvin Ridley received.”
Morris added that if Sutton were extended before the 2025 season, he could receive a signing bonus on top of the $14 million he’s already owed this year.
Given the current market for NFL wide receivers, that kind of deal might actually be a bargain for Denver. If that’s all it takes to keep Sutton long-term, it may be wise for the Broncos to act sooner rather than later.
