As expected, Tyrese Proctor slipped to the second round of June’s NBA Draft—but he landed in an ideal situation with Cleveland.
The Cavaliers have been building smartly and have assembled a promising roster, both in terms of talent and character.
One of the standout moments for Proctor post-draft was receiving a welcome call from star guard Donovan Mitchell.
Reflecting on the opportunity to learn from Mitchell, Proctor said: “He’s a great player. Just seeing his daily work and his habits, I think it’s going to be really cool to just be a sponge.”
He also emphasized the importance of defense—a lesson instilled in him by Duke head coach Jon Scheyer: “I think defense is a big one no matter where you go. I know that’s what Coach [Jon] Scheyer preached to me at Duke.”
In his first Summer League appearance, Proctor scored 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-7 from three-point range. He added one rebound, two assists, and two steals.
Also making an impact was former Miami big man Norchad Omier, who posted an efficient 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting, along with nine rebounds.
