On Friday, the Ohio State basketball signee announced he would not enroll with the Buckeyes, though it seemed he would still maintain ties with the program. However, on Wednesday, the four-star guard prospect from the class of 2025 revealed he would seek a release from Jake Diebler’s program and reopen his recruitment.
Jones is currently ranked as the top prospect in Ohio for his class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Nationally, he stands as the No. 114 overall recruit and the No. 19 shooting guard. He has received scholarship offers from several Big Ten programs, including Michigan, Penn State, and Rutgers, as well as from Cincinnati, Miami, Missouri, and Texas A&M.
Jones had initially planned to join Ohio State but opted instead to spend a year at a junior college or prep school due to academic eligibility concerns. A university spokesperson confirmed to Eleven Warriors that those academic issues are expected to keep him on that alternate path next season, though he will now be seeking a new collegiate destination.
Ohio State’s 2025–26 freshman class will feature four-star forward A’mare Bynum, along with two recent international and developmental additions: German guard Mathieu Grujicic and guard Myles Herro.
