The offensive line struggles for Virginia Tech last season were no secret. Anyone who watched the Hokies play could see the unit was far from dominant. Head coach Brent Pry saw it too. Last December, he parted ways with offensive line coach Ron Crook and, after the dust settled, brought in former West Virginia coach Matt Moore to rebuild the trenches.
Moore inherited a blank slate. Between the transfer portal and player graduations, all five starters from last year were gone. In some ways, that may have been a blessing—giving Moore the chance to start fresh. He restocked the room with a mix of familiar faces from West Virginia, portal additions, and returning Hokies eager to prove themselves after a year on the bench.
At the ACC Media Kickoff in Charlotte last month, quarterback Kyron Drones named the five players he’d most like protecting him. Now, midway through fall camp, Pry believes Moore’s group has a shot at developing real depth—something the Hokies sorely lacked a year ago.
Brent Pry Sees Potential Depth on Virginia Tech’s Offensive Line in 2025
Barring injuries before the Aug. 31 season opener against South Carolina, Virginia Tech’s starting five up front appears set—matching the lineup quarterback Kyron Drones prefers. But head coach Brent Pry knows depth will be critical, and he’s encouraged by the flexibility this group could offer if it stays healthy.
“We’ve got to stay healthy,” Pry said. “Jaden Muskrat’s going to be key. Brody Meadows is going to be key. We’ve got some flexibility because Tomas has played across different spots, and he’s certainly capable of sliding inside.”
Meadows is currently in a walking boot, though Pry expects him back for the next minicamp. Still, compared to last year’s struggles, the situation already feels improved. If this unit can remain intact, one of the Hokies’ biggest weaknesses in 2024 could transform into a strength in 2025—something that would be a major boost for the offense.
