Georgia Head Coach Kirby Smart Shares Two-Word Reaction to Major Commitment

The Georgia Bulldogs secured a major win on Monday with a verbal commitment from five-star quarterback Jared Curtis. Few were likely more thrilled than head coach Kirby Smart, who shared his excitement with a simple two-word tweet shortly after the announcement:

“Go Dawgs!!”

Given the magnitude of the commitment, no one would’ve blamed him for adding a third exclamation mark.

Curtis, the top quarterback and No. 2 overall prospect in the 2026 class per the 247Sports composite rankings, trails only offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell. He also holds the top spot among all 2026 recruits from Tennessee.

Jared Curtis’ commitment to Georgia could pay dividends even before he sets foot on campus. Offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell, the consensus No. 1 player at his position in the 2026 class, is set to announce his college decision on May 13 — and Curtis’ choice may influence his.

According to On3’s Steve Wiltfong, Georgia has been considered the frontrunner for Cantwell throughout much of the spring. Now, with Curtis choosing the Bulldogs over Oregon — the same two programs in Cantwell’s final list — Georgia may have gained a key edge in securing another elite talent.

When Jared Curtis eventually suits up for Georgia, his impact will become even more tangible.

This fall, the Bulldogs are expected to see a quarterback battle between Gunner Stockton — the favorite after starting in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal — and Ryan Puglisi. While both signal-callers bring talent and experience, Curtis could challenge for the starting job as soon as he arrives in 2026, assuming Stockton and Puglisi are still on the roster by then.

That future remains uncertain, but what’s clear now is head coach Kirby Smart’s excitement at the possibilities Curtis brings — a sentiment he didn’t hide following the commitment.
