TROY, Ala. – Brent Jones, who has served as Troy University’s Senior Vice Chancellor and Athletics Director since 2019, has accepted a new role as Associate Vice President / Executive Deputy Athletics Director at Georgia Tech.
“It is with mixed emotions that we bid farewell to Brent Jones,” said Troy Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. “His leadership has greatly impacted our staff and student-athletes. Brent and his family have become a valued part of our community, and while we are sad to see him go, we are proud of all he has accomplished and excited for his future.”
Jones’ eight and a half years with Troy Athletics — including the last six as Athletics Director — marked one of the most successful eras in department history. Under his leadership, Troy achieved major milestones in competitive success, revenue generation, community involvement, and academic performance.
“It’s been an incredible honor to serve Troy University and build lasting relationships with the people who make this place so special,” said Jones. “I want to thank Chancellor Hawkins for his unwavering support and leadership, and I’m grateful to our entire community — university leadership, the Board of Trustees, coaches, staff, student-athletes, alumni, and fans — for being part of this journey. The future of Troy Athletics is incredibly bright.”
During his tenure, Troy captured 10 Sun Belt Conference championships, hosted two Sun Belt Football Championship Games, reached the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship, played in the WNIT Championship, and earned a spot in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.
The 2024-25 season has already seen record-breaking achievements, including all-time highs in community service hours, GPA, fundraising, corporate sponsorships, licensing revenue, and ticket sales across multiple sports. Veterans Memorial Stadium (30,402) sold out for the first time in program history, and new attendance records were set for football and basketball.
Jones also oversaw numerous facility enhancements, including an indoor football practice field, renovations to Riddle-Pace Field, and upgrades to video and scoreboard systems across multiple sports. The opening of the North End Zone Football Facility was another major milestone under his leadership.
Kyle George, Deputy Director of Athletics for External Relations, will serve as Interim Athletics Director while a national search is conducted for Jones’ successor.
