The Colorado Buffaloes will open the 2025-26 season against Georgia Tech, marking Deion Sanders’ first year coaching without his son, Shedeur, on the roster. But the team may be shorthanded in the backfield.
According to reporter Scott Procter, running back Dallan Hayden has suffered a hand injury and is expected to miss “a couple of weeks,” likely keeping him out of the season opener against the Yellow Jackets.
Hayden, a 22-year-old transfer from Ohio State, served as a backup last season and was projected to hold a similar role this year. He currently sits behind Micah Welch and DeKalon Taylor on the depth chart, likely making him the third option at running back. In 2024, he logged 196 rushing yards and one touchdown on 64 carries.
While Colorado has been dealing with some bumps and bruises in fall camp, Sanders has suggested that most key contributors should be ready to go for the August 29 kickoff. The Buffaloes, coming off a 9-4 campaign, hope to build momentum in their first season back in the Big 12 with notable matchups ahead against Houston, BYU, TCU, Iowa State, Utah, and Arizona State.
