Alabama Football Is Built for Success in 2025 — If the Quarterback Delivers
Alabama football enters the 2025 season with the foundation of a national contender — and both data and roster strength back that up.
Let’s start with the numbers. ESPN’s recently released Football Power Index ranks Alabama third in the country, behind only Texas and Georgia. The model projects 9.6 wins and gives the Crimson Tide a 66.2% chance to reach the College Football Playoff. It’s not a guarantee, but it’s as close as preseason analytics get to one.
Beyond the projections, Alabama’s roster is loaded. Defensively, most starters return — including standout lineman LT Overton, who’s already being projected as a potential first-round pick. On offense, wide receiver Ryan Williams may be one of the best in the country, and tackle Kadyn Proctor — also a projected first-rounder — anchors a strong offensive line.
The secondary remains intact, too, headlined by blue-chip corners Domani Jackson and Zabien Brown, both former five-star recruits and 2024 starters.
And while former offensive coordinator Tommy Rees moved on, Alabama made a splash by bringing in Ryan Grubb, who returns to college football after a year in the NFL and is regarded as one of the top offensive minds in the game.
Altogether, Alabama is stacked — but one position still holds the key to turning potential into a championship season: quarterback.
As of now, that job looks to belong to Ty Simpson. Grubb indicated Simpson was the frontrunner at the end of spring practice. He still needs to secure and maintain the starting role, but he has the edge heading into summer.
Alabama has the roster to beat almost anyone — as long as its quarterback plays clean football. But to topple elite programs like Georgia, LSU, or a Playoff opponent, the Tide will need more than caution from Simpson. They’ll need composure, playmaking, and consistency.
If Simpson is merely average, Alabama can still be very good — but likely won’t hit the championship standard Tuscaloosa demands. If he’s among the SEC’s best? Alabama has the roster, coaching, and momentum to make a legitimate run at a national title.
Everything is in place. Now it’s up to the quarterback to unlock it.
