Turns out Ven-Allen Lubin wasn’t exactly upfront — he’s now officially announced his transfer to… NC State.

Lubin wasn’t honest — he’s now officially announced he’s transferring to… NC State.
From the moment Lubin entered the portal, a return felt unlikely. UNC seemed more than a little frustrated by the sudden change of heart from the 6-foot-8 forward, especially considering he had already agreed to financial terms to return for what would have been his senior season in 2025–26.
Apparently, Lubin wasn’t thrilled that some of his potential new teammates were landing bigger financial deals — and he wanted in. Unfortunately for him, Jim Tanner and the UNC basketball program weren’t interested in playing that game.
To be fair, Lubin had a strong season in Chapel Hill. He stepped up as the starting center on an undersized roster and, down the stretch, was arguably the Tar Heels’ best player. He closed the season with 11 straight double-digit scoring games, including four double-doubles, providing a critical presence in the paint.
But the offseason plan was clear: get bigger, get deeper. Mission accomplished. Maybe Lubin didn’t like the idea of real competition. Or maybe he just wanted to say he played for four different programs in four seasons.
Either way, Lubin’s lucky NC State doesn’t travel to Chapel Hill this year — the first time in over a century. Because if they did, the now-former Tar Heel would absolutely hear it from a fanbase he just slapped in the face with this decision.
