One Hokie Every Gamecock Fan Should Have on Their Radar

The Name South Carolina Gamecock Fans Must Know on Virginia Tech’s Roster

We’re still a few weeks away from the South Carolina Gamecocks opening their season against the Virginia Tech Hokies, but it’s never too early to start scouting the opposition. One name Gamecock fans need to circle is a player who wasn’t even on Virginia Tech’s roster until this preseason: Terion Stewart.

Like many programs across college football, the Hokies dipped into the transfer portal this offseason, and one of their biggest pickups was Stewart, a powerful running back from Bowling Green.

Here’s what South Carolina fans need to know: Stewart is a bruiser. At 5-foot-9 and 222 pounds, he’s built low to the ground and is a nightmare to tackle one-on-one. Arm tackles won’t cut it. The Gamecocks’ defense will need to swarm to the ball whenever Stewart gets a touch, or he’ll make them pay.

Stewart brings proven production with him to Blacksburg. Over the last two seasons, he racked up 1,660 rushing yards, 14 touchdowns, and averaged an impressive 5.7 yards per carry. His performance in 2024 earned him First-Team All-MAC honors. One of his most dominant outings came against Western Michigan last season, where he exploded for 150 yards on just 15 carries, averaging a ridiculous 10 yards per attempt with a touchdown to boot.

With South Carolina breaking in a retooled defensive front after losing several key players to the NFL, this matchup becomes even more intriguing. The Gamecocks’ new-look defensive line will face a major test right out of the gate, and Terion Stewart will be the player carrying that challenge straight at them in Week One.
