If you’re a college basketball fan, you’ve probably been loving the nonstop action coming out of the NCAA transfer portal — and the headlines just keep coming.
On Monday, major news broke when a player from the reigning national champion Florida Gators announced he’s staying in the SEC — but with a new home.
Denzel Aberdeen, a key contributor off the bench for Todd Golden’s Gators, committed to Kentucky, and his message to Big Blue Nation immediately caught attention:
“Thank you Jesus! BBN.. LETSSS DO ITTTT”
Aberdeen, a 6-foot-5 guard from Orlando, made his presence felt in the NCAA Tournament title game, logging 18 minutes and scoring seven points.
Despite both teams playing in the SEC, Florida and Kentucky only faced off once this past season — a thrilling January 4th showdown in Lexington that ended with a 106-100 win for the Wildcats. Aberdeen came off the bench in that game as well, finishing with four points and one assist.
Aberdeen now joins a storied Kentucky program in pursuit of its ninth NCAA Tournament championship — a title the Wildcats last claimed in 2012. Despite their rich history, Kentucky hasn’t made a Final Four appearance since 2015, a drought they’re eager to end.
He’ll be part of a loaded incoming group that includes Andrija Jelavic, Jayden Quaintance, Mo Dioubate, Jaland Lowe, Kam Williams, Jasper Johnson, and Malachi Moreno. Notably, both Johnson and Moreno are in-state talents, adding a local flair to the roster.
In addition to the newcomers, Kentucky will welcome back key returners Trent Noah, Collin Chandler, and Brandon Garrison — setting the stage for what could be an electrifying season in Lexington.
