GOOD NEWS: The Ohio State basketball team has announced the addition of a new assistant coach during their Buckeye Breakfast event.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State basketball program has added a new assistant coach to its staff, and he’s no stranger to one of its newest players.

Head coach Jake Diebler announced Friday that Brian Walsh, a former Indiana assistant, will take over the position left vacant by Talor Battle, who recently returned to Penn State. Walsh brings eight years of experience from Indiana, including the past three seasons under head coach Mike Woodson. A former player at Xavier and Akron, Walsh began his coaching career with the Zips in 2013 and later served on the staff at Dayton before joining the Hoosiers in 2017.

“I’m excited for Brian and his family to join our Ohio State Hoops family,” Diebler said in a statement. “Brian is a proven recruiter with deep Midwest ties who has excelled at connecting with and developing players. His Big Ten scouting experience and analytics expertise will be a valuable asset to our program.”

Walsh’s move to Columbus reunites him with guard Gabe Cupps, who spent his first two collegiate seasons at Indiana before transferring to Ohio State this offseason.
