Heartbreaking: Reggie Wayne delivers emotional tribute to Jim Irsay

Reggie Wayne, former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver and current wide receivers coach, delivered an emotional tribute to team owner Jim Irsay during a media session on Wednesday.

Overcome with emotion at the podium, Wayne shared what Irsay meant to him and urged his players to understand Irsay’s deep commitment to them. “I told the receivers, many of you don’t really know him,” Wayne said. “He’d do anything for anyone. He’d give the shirt off his back. He cared about his players, his team, and this city—not just the players, but everyone in the organization.

“I told them, ‘You’ve got homework. Read about him. Learn who he was to truly understand the kind of person he was.’”

Following the passing of Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay last week at age 65, former wide receiver and current wide receivers coach Reggie Wayne delivered a heartfelt tribute on Wednesday, emphasizing Irsay’s profound generosity. Many former Colts players echoed this sentiment, highlighting Irsay’s deep care for his players.

Having spent his entire 14-year NFL career with the Colts, Wayne developed a close relationship with Irsay. A six-time Pro Bowl selection and Super Bowl XLI champion, Wayne ranks second only to Marvin Harrison in nearly every career receiving statistic in franchise history. At the podium, visibly emotional, Wayne urged his receivers to learn about Irsay’s character, saying, “He’d do anything for anyone. He cared about his players, his team, the city, and everyone in the organization. Read about him. Learn who he was to understand the kind of person he was.”
