Texas Tabbed SEC Title Favorite; Arkansas Slotted 14th in Preseason Media Poll
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Texas is the preseason favorite to win the Southeastern Conference football title, according to the SEC Media Days poll released Friday. Meanwhile, Arkansas was projected to finish 14th in the conference.
In just their second year in the SEC, the Longhorns are riding high expectations after a breakout debut season in 2024. Under fifth-year Head Coach Steve Sarkisian, Texas reached the SEC Championship Game, narrowly losing 22-19 to Georgia in overtime. The Longhorns went on to earn the No. 5 seed in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff, notching wins over Clemson (38-24) and Arizona State (39-31, 2OT) before falling to eventual national champion Ohio State 28-14 in the Cotton Bowl semifinal.
Texas received 96 first-place votes in the media poll, more than doubling runner-up Georgia’s 44, as the top projected finisher in the conference.
Arkansas, coming off a challenging season under Coach Sam Pittman, will enter the fall with minimal external expectations but plenty of motivation. The Razorbacks are aiming to defy the predictions and make noise in a loaded SEC that now includes both Texas and Oklahoma as new full-time members.
The 2025 SEC season officially kicks off on August 30.
