2026 Defensive Lineman Cameron McHaney Pledges to Indiana

Cameron McHaney Commits to Indiana Football

Defensive lineman Cameron McHaney announced his commitment to the Indiana Hoosiers on Instagram today, becoming the sixth defensive line pledge for the program’s 2026 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-1, 315-pound standout currently plays at IMG Academy in Florida but began his high school career at Indianapolis Lutheran. He is considered a three-star prospect by 247Sports, ranking as the No. 43 defensive lineman nationally and No. 43 overall player in Florida.

McHaney recently took an official visit to Bloomington and came away impressed with the Hoosiers’ environment and staff.

“It was really fun,” McHaney told Peegs.com. “I was able to get to know some of the players, the other recruits that were there with me, and the coaches. I liked the atmosphere and everything about the environment.”

Indiana envisions McHaney as a versatile interior defensive lineman capable of playing both nose tackle and three-technique.

“Coach [Pat] Kuntz really broke down everything and showed me how I can really be effective in the defense they run,” McHaney said. “They see me playing the nose and the three-tech because I have the stocky build for nose, but I also have the speed to get off the ball to be a good three-tech.”

McHaney also cited head coach Curt Cignetti’s early impact on the program as a key reason for his decision.

“Coach Cignetti is just overall a great head coach,” McHaney said. “He seems like he really knows what he’s doing, and I like what he has built at Indiana. They were not a very good team before he was there. He has just turned the program completely around.”

He chose Indiana over a number of other offers, including Illinois, Purdue, Louisville, Vanderbilt, and Florida Atlantic, among others.

As a junior at IMG, McHaney totaled 39 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, along with 2 quarterback hurries and 2 pass deflections.
