The biggest reason behind Moody’s decision? His relationship with DeVries.
“That’s my guy. We talk all the time. He’s been texting me since he first offered me. He kept in contact with me. He built a relationship with me. That’s the best thing you can do as a head coach is build a relationship, and me and him have a tight bond,” Moody told Peegs.com.
Listed as a 6-foot-4 combo guard, Moody is rated No. 149 nationally by the 247Sports Composite. He also ranks as the 13th-best combo guard in the country and the No. 5 overall prospect in Maryland.
A product of Bishop McNamara High School, Moody also plays for Team Takeover on the Nike EYBL circuit. This summer, he’s taken on a lead role for Team Takeover’s 17U squad, which boasts a 10–1 record. Through EYBL play, he’s averaging 12.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.0 steals per game as the team eyes a Peach Jam championship.
Moody chose Indiana over a long list of high-major offers, including Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan State, Providence, Virginia Tech, and others.
“I’m blessed to continue this journey with the cream and crimson – I’m a Hoosier,” Moody wrote on Instagram. “My visit was unforgettable. Huge thanks to Coach Kenny Johnson for believing in me since 7th grade and to Coach DeVries and the IU staff for making me feel at home.
