Colts Leadership Passes to Carlie Irsay-Gordon Following Jim Irsay’s Death at 65
Carlie Irsay-Gordon, the eldest daughter of late Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay, is expected to assume control of the team’s football operations following his passing on Wednesday at age 65.
According to the Indianapolis Star, ownership of the franchise will be shared among Irsay’s three daughters—Carlie Irsay-Gordon, 44, Casey Foyt, and Kalen Jackson—all of whom have served as vice chairs within the organization.
With this transition, the Irsay sisters become the youngest owners in the NFL, echoing their father’s rise in 1997 when he took over the team at 37 after the death of his father, Robert Irsay. Jim Irsay had originally been named general manager in 1984, shortly after the franchise relocated from Baltimore to Indianapolis.
Ms. Irsay-Gordon is no stranger to overseeing team operations. In 2014, she temporarily managed football affairs during her father’s rehabilitation and six-game league suspension following a DUI arrest.
The Colts and local authorities have not released the cause of Mr. Irsay’s death.
In a statement shared on social media, the organization expressed its grief:
“We are devastated to announce our beloved Owner & CEO, Jim Irsay, passed away peacefully in his sleep this afternoon. … Jim’s generosity can be felt all over Indianapolis, the state of Indiana, and the country. … Simply put, he wanted to make the world a better place and that philosophy never wavered. Jim will be deeply missed by his family, the Colts organization, and fans everywhere, but we remain inspired by his caring and unique spirit.”
