June 13 (UPI) — The Indianapolis Colts will honor late owner Jim Irsay by inducting him into their Ring of Honor during their Week 1 matchup against the Miami Dolphins, the team announced Friday.
The ceremony will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. EDT. Irsay, who passed away May 21 at 65, will become the 20th member of the Colts Ring of Honor, following his father, Robert Irsay, the first inductee in 1996.
Jim Irsay assumed principal ownership in 1997 after his father’s death. Friday would have marked his 66th birthday. On Monday, the Colts named his daughters—Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt, and Kalen Jackson—as co-owners.
“Our dad, Jim Irsay, was the ultimate champion for the Colts, the NFL, Indianapolis, and Indiana,” his daughters said in a statement. “His induction into the Ring of Honor alongside other Colts legends is a fitting tribute to his legacy.”
Under Irsay’s leadership, the Colts secured a Super Bowl title, 10 division championships, and two AFC titles.
