Over the past two offseasons, the Cincinnati Bengals have seen both of their coordinators depart for new roles. Former offensive coordinator Brian Callahan became the head coach of the Tennessee Titans, while ex-defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo took over as defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts.
Following Callahan’s move, several Bengals followed him to Tennessee, including wide receiver Tyler Boyd and cornerback Chidobe Awuzie. Although a similar exodus was expected when Anarumo joined the Colts, no Bengals defenders initially made the jump.
That has now changed, as linebacker Joe Bachie has signed with Indianapolis. Originally entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Saints in 2020, Bachie eventually found stability with the Bengals, joining their practice squad in 2021. He remained with Cincinnati on a series of one-year deals, contributing mostly on special teams and never playing more than 150 defensive snaps in a season.
Now with the Colts, Bachie will reunite with Anarumo and compete for a roster spot. Given that the Bengals recently added a linebacker in free agency and drafted two more, this move could provide Bachie with a clearer path to making a team this fall.
