BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — After more than three months of waiting, Luke Goode received the NCAA’s final decision on his appeal for an extra year of eligibility on Tuesday—and it wasn’t the outcome he hoped for.
According to The Indianapolis Star’s Zach Osterman, the NCAA denied Goode’s medical hardship waiver. Goode alluded to the news on Instagram Tuesday afternoon, posting:
> “(Four) years later. Thank you God for the journey through highs and lows. Can’t wait for what’s next! Isaiah 41:10.”
The 6-foot-7 forward spent the 2024–25 season at Indiana after transferring from Illinois, where he played his first three collegiate years. During his lone season with the Hoosiers, Goode appeared in all 32 games, starting 16, and averaged 9.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. He shot 41.4% from the field and 39.2% from beyond the arc.
Goode’s eligibility appeal was based on the 2022–23 season at Illinois, where he suffered a preseason foot injury and returned to play only 10 games. For a medical waiver to be granted, the NCAA requires a player to have participated in no more than 30% of the team’s games. Goode’s 10 appearances in Illinois’ 33-game season slightly exceeded the threshold at 30.3%.
A Fort Wayne, Indiana native, Goode finished his college career with 108 games played and career averages of 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds.
Following Indiana’s loss to Oregon in the Big Ten Tournament, Goode publicly expressed a desire to return for another season. Head coach Darian DeVries indicated in May that the program was reserving a scholarship for Goode and fellow senior Anthony Leal—whose own waiver request was also denied.
Indiana’s 2025–26 roster currently features 12 scholarship players, giving DeVries flexibility to add one more to round out his first team in Bloomington, with the season still over three months away.
