Despite some lingering skepticism, the buzz around Kansas State’s 2025 season is hard to ignore. Many analysts project the Wildcats to contend for the top spot in the Big 12 following a letdown year in 2024. One USA Today ranking even slotted them at No. 2 in the conference, just behind Arizona State.
“Avery Johnson has to take the next step in his development for the Wildcats to reclaim the Big 12 title belt,” the article noted. “He’ll get a big boost in the backfield from do-everything running back Dylan Edwards. Once again, the pressure falls squarely on quarterback Avery Johnson. The dual-threat QB turned in a solid debut season as the starter, throwing for 2,712 yards with 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, while adding 605 rushing yards and seven scores on the ground.
But if the Wildcats truly want to break into the College Football Playoff conversation, Johnson will need to elevate his game to an elite level. Surrounding him, the offense must provide balance. The Wildcats leaned heavily on their ground game last season, and they’ll look to replicate that success in 2025. With the addition of five-star tight end Linkon Cure and a bolstered receiving corps alongside standout Jayce Brown, Kansas State hopes to build a more dynamic and versatile offense.
