The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team has officially signed 7-foot-1 center Reece Potter, who spent his first two collegiate seasons at Miami (OH), head coach Mark Pope announced Thursday.
“Reece Potter is a Lexington Catholic legend,” Pope said in a press release. “He’s a tall, versatile big man with a rare blend of mobility and skill. Reece can pass, shoot, and protect the rim, and he fits perfectly into our system. Most importantly, he understands the significance of wearing the Kentucky jersey.”
Potter, a Lexington, Kentucky native, played high school basketball at Lexington Catholic, where he was named the 2023 Lexington Player of the Year by the Lexington Herald-Leader and was a finalist for Mr. Kentucky Basketball.
Over two seasons at Miami, Potter averaged 6.3 points and 3.4 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per game. He shot 45.4 percent from the field and an impressive 39.8 percent from beyond the arc. As a freshman in 2023-24, he made 11 starts and appeared in 30 games off the bench this past season, contributing to a Miami team that went 25-9 overall and 14-4 in conference play, reaching the Mid-American Conference Tournament championship game.
Potter posted double-digit points in six games during his sophomore season and 11 times in his college career. His best performance came in December against Sacred Heart, where he scored 19 points on perfect 8-of-8 shooting, including 3-of-3 from three-point range. He also had a standout performance in the MAC Tournament against Eastern Michigan, scoring 15 points, grabbing a career-high eight rebounds, and blocking two shots to help Miami secure the win.
In high school at Lexington Catholic, Potter was named the 11th Region Player of the Year as a senior, averaging 17.9 points and 8.7 rebounds while leading the District 43 champions and serving as team captain. He joins a proud tradition of Lexington natives who have played for the Wildcats, becoming the 88th all-time player from the city to suit up for Kentucky.
Potter is the seventh new addition to the Kentucky roster this offseason, joining Denzel Aberdeen, Mouhamed Dioubate, Andrija Jelavić, Jaland Lowe, Jayden Quaintance, and Kam Williams.
