Another Five-Star Target Drawn to NC State’s Revamped Basketball Program

North Carolina native King Gibson doesn’t appear on the reported 2027 NC State basketball wishlist just yet — but that may not be the case for long.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound five-star guard arrived in Raleigh on Thursday for an unofficial visit, with much of the Wolfpack’s 2025–26 roster present. It wouldn’t be surprising if Gibson walks away with an offer from first-year head coach Will Wade and his staff before the weekend is over.

A Burlington native now playing for powerhouse Montverde Academy (Fla.), Gibson has elevated his game this spring on the EYBL circuit. Competing against elite talent, he’s averaging 17.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game for Team United.

Unsurprisingly, Gibson’s recruitment is gaining serious momentum. On Friday morning, On3’s Jacob Polacheck reported that the five-star prospect has recently drawn interest from recruiting powerhouse Kentucky, among other high-profile programs.

According to the 247Sports 2027 Composite, Gibson currently ranks No. 14 overall, No. 1 among combo guards, and No. 1 in the state of Florida.
