NC State Basketball Joins Race for Top-Ranked Forward

Following an early June unofficial visit to Raleigh with the NC State Wolfpack, Josh Leonard, a rising junior from Wilson High School (S.C.), landed a scholarship offer from head basketball coach Will Wade. The 6-foot-7, 230-pound wing is a five-star prospect in the 2026 recruiting class.

Leonard, who also recently visited the South Carolina Gamecocks and Clemson Tigers, is ranked No. 9 overall, No. 4 among small forwards, and No. 1 in South Carolina on the 247Sports 2027 Composite.

The talented wing is nearing double-digit scholarship offers, with NC State, South Carolina, Clemson, Wake Forest, UCF, Cincinnati, and Cal among the programs actively pursuing him.

On3’s Jamie Shaw recently highlighted Josh Leonard’s relentless intensity, noting, “There is a rugged nature that Josh Leonard seems to consistently bring to the floor.” Shaw praised the 6-foot-7, 230-pound wing’s versatility, emphasizing his ability to excel as a perimeter defensive stopper while also creating offense for himself and his teammates. “He has excellent size, with good length and explosive pop,” Shaw added.

Though the recruitment of the five-star 2026 prospect from Wilson High School (S.C.) is still in its early stages, On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine currently favors NC State, led by head coach Will Wade, as the frontrunner to secure Leonard’s commitment.
