NC State has gone ahead and released its depth chart well before the Week 2 matchup with Virginia—and honestly, I’m not sure I love that move. Now the Cavaliers know for sure that, yes, State will indeed be putting actual football players on the field.
There aren’t really any surprises, though a few positions are still unsettled. At right guard, it’s listed as Kamen Smith OR Val Erickson OR Yousef Mugharbil. The fact that Mugharbil has worked his way into that conversation is noteworthy. Over at right corner, it could be either Jamel Johnson or Brian Nelson.
The biggest question mark might be at kicker. The staff hasn’t committed to anyone yet for the Virginia game. Normally I’d be fine with giving a guy another shot, but after Nick Konieczynski badly missed two fourth-quarter attempts last week, it feels like the job should go to Kanoah Vinesett.
On the injury front, Dave Doeren shared some good news today: Noah Rogers has been “fully cleared” to play this week. That’s a big boost for the offense.
