NC State Football Lands All-AAC First Team Cornerback from Transfer Portal

This weekend, NC State football head coach Dave Doeren and his staff secured their 15th addition of the current transfer portal cycle with the commitment of former North Texas cornerback Brian Nelson II, who emerged as a breakout performer for the Mean Green in 2024.

The 6-foot, 191-pound redshirt freshman from Pearland, Texas, made his decision official by signing with the Wolfpack. He announced his commitment to the NC State football program with a social media post on Saturday evening.

Last season, after a limited debut in just four games as a freshman at North Texas, Brian Nelson II made a significant leap, appearing in 12 games and earning eight starts. He tied for second in the American Athletic Conference with four interceptions β€” including a game-clinching pick against Temple in the regular-season finale β€” and was named to the All-AAC First Team for his standout play.

Nelson originally joined the Mean Green as a three-star prospect out of Shadow Creek High School in Texas. In the 247Sports 2023 Composite rankings, he was listed No. 1,638 overall, No. 138 among cornerbacks, and No. 269 in the state.

Now in the transfer portal, Nelson has dramatically improved his stock, ranking No. 332 overall and No. 43 among cornerbacks, according to 247Sports.

With Nelson’s commitment, NC State’s transfer class currently ranks No. 56 nationally and No. 13 in the ACC.
