Just last summer, Sagemont Prep (Fla.) shooting guard Matt Able was considered a three-star prospect, ranked No. 222 overall in the 247Sports 2025 Composite. Fast forward to now—barely a week after NC State officially welcomed him to the Wolfpack—the 6-foot-5, 190-pound scorer has catapulted into five-star status.
Able’s rapid rise has taken him all the way up to No. 26 in the composite rankings. In ESPN’s final Top 100 for the 2025 class, released last week, he comes in at No. 24 overall, though he’s listed with four stars there. Across all major recruiting outlets—ESPN, Rivals, On3, and 247Sports—he now ranks among the nation’s top 30 high school seniors.
“I’m excited to have Matt sign with us,” said new NC State head coach Will Wade. “I believe he has the chance to become a complete player in our program on both ends of the floor. He’s a three-level scorer who uses his size and athleticism to get to the rim, has a strong midrange game, and can really catch fire from deep.
“He’s just beginning to tap into his potential and has all the tools to be a game-changer at NC State.”
As for the Wolfpack’s other 2025 signee, Christ School (N.C.) four-star forward Zymicah Wilkins has also seen a rise, climbing three spots recently to No. 73 in the 247Sports Composite.
