When Ven-Allen Lubin, a one-year UNC basketball player, entered the transfer portal in late April, the 6-foot-8, 230-pound power forward assured Tar Heel fans on social media that he intended to return to Chapel Hill for his final season of college eligibility. But about six weeks later, Lubin has instead committed to a familiar foe: NC State.
Joe Tipton of On3 was the first to report Lubin’s decision to join the Wolfpack on Sunday afternoon.
With his commitment, NC State’s upcoming roster will mark the second straight season the program features a former Tar Heel. Last year, it was Dontrez Styles—though he made a pit stop at Georgetown before arriving in Raleigh.
Lubin, who previously played one season each at Notre Dame and Vanderbilt before transferring to UNC, is currently ranked No. 141 overall and No. 23 among power forwards in the transfer portal rankings.
In 37 appearances for the Tar Heels last season, Ven-Allen Lubin posted averages of 8.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, shooting an impressive 68.4 percent from the field and 71.1 percent from the free-throw line.
He now becomes the eighth transfer addition for Will Wade and his staff at NC State, further solidifying the Wolfpack’s position for a top-10 transfer class in the first-year head coach’s debut offseason.
