Chambers High School (N.C.) four-star shooting guard Markus Kerr made a visit to the NC State basketball program back in September 2023. However, he didn’t receive an offer from then-head coach Kevin Keatts.
Fast forward to the early stages of Will Wade’s tenure in Raleigh, and things have changed. Less than two months into Wade’s time at NC State, his staff is now among four programs ramping up their recruitment of the 6-foot-4, 180-pound junior, according to BIG SHOTS, which spoke with Kerr this week. The other schools showing consistent interest are Virginia, Auburn, and Mississippi State.
A dynamic scorer and emerging all-around talent, Markus Kerr has been making waves with Team United on the Nike EYBL circuit. According to the 247Sports 2026 Composite rankings, Kerr currently sits at No. 117 overall, ranks as the No. 17 shooting guard nationally, and holds the No. 5 spot among prospects in North Carolina.
Markus Kerr has reported just around a dozen scholarship offers so far, but his list already features notable programs from both the ACC and SEC. Among them are Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas A\&M, and Mississippi State.
Just last week, NC State’s new recruiting staff under first-year head coach Will Wade officially extended its first known 2026 offer to international wing Aaron Ekwere.
The Wolfpack has yet to secure a commitment from a 2026 prospect—neither during the Kevin Keatts era nor since Wade took over. Still, with the cycle in its early stages, there’s plenty of time for that to change.
