RALEIGH, N.C. — With NC State basketball’s roster finalized and key transfer portal additions secured, it’s time to evaluate the rankings for the incoming class. Under new coach Will Wade, the Wolfpack not only bolstered their roster with experienced talent but also assembled one of the nation’s top transfer portal classes, according to multiple sources.
Starting with 247Sports, the original home of transfer portal rankings, NC State added one five-star prospect, Darrion Williams, six four-star players, and one three-star recruit. Williams, ranked No. 6 overall, was the highest-rated ACC transfer and one of only 10 five-star portal players. Within 247Sports’ Top 150, the Wolfpack secured Williams (No. 6), Tre Holloman (No. 112), Terrance Arceneaux (No. 133), and Ven-Allen Lubin (No. 143). In contrast, the top player NC State lost, Marcus Hill, ranked No. 201. Four-star additions Alyn Breed, Jerry Deng, and Quadir Copeland helped NC State rank No. 2 in the ACC, trailing only Louisville.
ESPN’s inaugural transfer portal rankings placed NC State at No. 13, with Louisville at No. 4 due to three Top-35 players. The Wolfpack’s class was highlighted by early commit Holloman (No. 82) and late addition Williams (No. 4). ESPN’s Jeff Borzello noted that Wade’s aggressive portal strategy paid off with Williams, a versatile mismatch who anchors the roster as a go-to player. Wade complemented him with proven talent like NCAA tournament starters Holloman and Lubin, plus Arceneaux, who has significant offensive potential. Two transfers from Wade’s McNeese roster also joined. Borzello called Williams the key to making NC State a “legitimate top-25 contender” and highlighted Holloman’s high-major experience among guards, positioning the Wolfpack as a top ACC team.
Evan Miya’s rankings for the 2025-26 season placed NC State at No. 3 overall, with Williams as the No. 1 portal player, making the Wolfpack the top ACC team in his metrics. Miami ranked No. 9, and Louisville No. 13.
Beyond transfers, NC State’s overall incoming class—combining portal and high school recruits—ranks No. 14 nationally per 247Sports. With two five-star prospects, including Top-30 high school recruit Matt Able, the Wolfpack sit at No. 4 in the ACC, signaling a strong start to the Wade era.
